Attending a bridal showcase is one of the simplest ways to get ideas for your upcoming wedding and reception.

Having a variety of vendors in one location makes it easy to see everyone in one day and do a quick compare and contrast of their services. Many vendors have samples on hand so you not only get to see, but also touch—and maybe even taste—their product. And even if you don’t book a vendor that day, you’ll find out who’s available and be able to gauge who you like.

But there are benefits to booking a vendor the day of the show. “The majority of the exhibitors attending our show offer discounts ranging from 10 to 20 percent off,” says April Chapman, director of operations for the Behind the Veil Bridal Show. “Because we’re in a tough economy, brides are looking for ways to maximize their budget while still having a beautiful affair. By booking on the day of the show, you still have access to quality vendors but get a more reasonable price.”

Tracey Mancini, senior catering sales manager of the Bernards Inn in Bernardsville (908-766-0002; bernardsinn.com), which hosted An Elegant Bridal Show earlier this year, agrees there are definitely deals to be had at bridal showcases. “If not a discount, they may offer a bonus,” she says. “From a florist this could be a free bouquet with your flower order or from a band or deejay it may be free cocktail music when you book them for your reception.” Mancini adds that the Bernards Inn also offers deals during their shows. “We may offer a percentage off or give you a free food station or free ice sculpture for booking that same day.”

If you book during the show you also have the advantage of securing that vendor or reception site for the date of your wedding—before anyone else can snag it. And don’t forget the prizes! Almost every bridal showcase has free door prizes given out to random attendees. The only catch is that you generally have to stay until the end of the show to be present when they draw the winning names. Prizes can range from various gifts or gift baskets to vendors offering their services for free. Behind the Veil even gave away a free wedding package, including a honeymoon in Tahiti, valued at more than $20,000.
