Dorian is a pastry chef, and Kevin is a Ph.D. student at Duke University in North Carolina, where they currently reside. Perhaps it was Dorian’s creative vibe that inspired her vision of an over-the-top, garden-themed wedding, resembling a scene from the film Ferngully.
Her dream came true at Spring Brook Country Club in Morristown with the help of planner Samantha Goldberg of Samantha Goldberg & Co. in Summit and Lisa and Michael Plociniak of A Touch of Elegance in Rockaway. Floral designers climbed ladders to adorn chandeliers with blossoms and created window treatments of ferns and flowers. A forest of topiary centerpieces graced two long tables, and the sweetheart table—the room’s focal point—was adorned with handmade floral art. Goldberg even designed handbags of fresh blooms and moss, just big enough for each bridesmaid to hold a lipstick and cell phone.
Dorian credits her father-in-law’s generosity for making her enchanted garden come to life; he handled that expense. No detail was spared. “Anywhere they could put a flower, they did,” says Kevin, who happily handled many of the event details.
When the reception space was dramatically unveiled to the bride and groom, Dorian giggled with joy and Kevin’s eyes opened as wide as saucers. “We were amazed, and Kevin couldn’t even speak,” Dorian says. “The space was so beautiful that I wanted to bring a sleeping bag and overnight right there in Club Ferngully.” As a special surprise, Goldberg hired a chimney sweep in traditional British attire as a greeter. “My mom is English, and it’s good luck if you see a chimney sweep on your wedding day,” says Dorian. “When Mom and I saw him, we both cried.”
The reception dinner featured organic baby greens, grilled filet mignon, and broiled South African lobster tail, a sugar-flower cake by Carlo’s City Hall Bake Shop, and Dorian’s homemade almond brittle dipped in dark and white chocolate. After late-night dancing, the couple happily relaxed at home for two weeks before their ten-day Mediterranean honeymoon cruise.
