This pristine sanctuary is more than just an iconic family-oriented resort. Its $140 million redevelopment has made it a world-class sporting and recreation facility with nonpareil opportunities for relaxation and adventure. The resort serves a duel purpose, acting as an exquisite wedding location and an exceptional spot for an extended vacation for those interested in throwing one heck of a party.
Amanda Deminie, one of the event coordinators on staff at the resort who has worked extensively with couples doing their wedding planning, says the weddings trend toward “beach elegant” and are specifically tailored to the couple’s needs, whether they are looking for a quality casual affair or a more formal and traditional ceremony. “Whatever they want, we’ll work to provide,” she added.
“Here you have the luxury of holding a ceremony away from the bustling activity commonly found at other resorts and destinations,” Deminie says. The size and ecological diversity of the resort grounds enhance the feeling of privacy couples often desire for their nuptials.
Ceremonies typically are held at Sunset Cove, a spot on the northern end of the island that provides spectacular views of the Gulf of Mexico, the white sandy shores of Captiva Beach, and the rippling waters of Redfish Pass. The resort also features King’s Crown Lawn, another excellent spot to exchange vows for those more skittish about getting a little sand beneath their toes (or, on their dresses and tuxedos), but consider a sunset ceremony absolutely essential.
The palm tree-lined King’s Crown Lawn overlooks the tranquil waters of Pine Island Sound, and is situated just outside the resort’s most popular reception venue, the King’s Crown Dining Room. With a capacity of 50 to 150, you and your guests can enjoy early cocktails and hors d’oeuvres on the lawn before retiring to the beach cabana-style reception room for entrées and dancing.
Couples planning to invite more guests can choose between the Captiva Ballroom (capacity 75 to 500), or the Sea Pearl (capacity 50 to 200). The high ceilings and plush carpeting of the ballroom offer a highly flexible space that can accommodate even the most lavish dream wedding décor and accoutrements. The more subdued, yet luxurious, Sea Pearl room includes five-star finishes and furniture no less classy than its ballroom counterpart, and both can be outfitted...or thematically and schematically adjusted...to suit the couple’s whimsy for interior design.
