If Montclair makeup artist Bobbi Brown were to send you a text message with one bridal beauty tip, it would read, “On your wedding day you should look like yourself at your most beautiful.”

This pearl of wisdom should come as no surprise to women who are ardent Bobbi believers and embrace her refreshing beauty ideas. Brown launched a bridal kit last spring that gives brides the beauty basics. We recently interviewed the New Jersey beauty guru about the prenuptial prep.

What was your inspiration to design a kit just for brides?

Planning a wedding can be an overwhelming process and I wanted to help simplify things for the bride-to-be. Every woman wants to look and feel her most beautiful on her wedding day, and this kit has the makeup basics that no bride should be without.

How does this kit compare to what you used at your own wedding?

The kit has timeless, universally flattering colors. For my wedding, I opted for classic shades like the ones in the kit. Your wedding day is not the time to try trendy, of-the-moment looks.

When should a bride have her initial makeup consulatation?

Several weeks before the wedding. Make sure to do your research before picking an artist. Ask to see pictures of their work, and do a test application a week before the wedding to ensure that your vision matches theirs.

What are the top five items every bride should have in her makeup bag?

Concealer, pressed powder, lipstick or gloss, lip liner, and no-smudge mascara.

How do these items differ from what a bride should carry every day?

Your wedding makeup bag should be simple and only have the essentials you need to touch-up your makeup after tears and for pictures.

Why is it so important to not be overdone on your wedding?

You should look like you at your most beautiful on your wedding day. Keep everything simple, but strong and pretty. Chances are you will regret overdone or trendy makeup when you look back at your wedding photos years from now.

So what are your three must-haves for the honeymoon makeup bag?

This is your time to relax and decompress, so keep the honeymoon makeup simple and fuss-free. Be sure to bring along moisturizer with SPF, a creamy yellow-based concealer for dark circles, and a pot rouge that you can blot on both cheeks and lips.
