The couple, who grew up in Marlboro and now live in Manalapan, had an array of ideas for their big day. To make their vision—everything from Disney and old Hollywood to skull and crossbones and Goth—come to life, they turned to wedding planner Tina LaMorte, of Oh So Fabulous in Maywood. “What I loved about Kim and Ian is that they were very in sync with each other,” says LaMorte. “This type of wedding wouldn’t work if it was one-sided, but they were in total agreement about the style and what was important.” The three decided on a retro-Hollywood theme. “We worked hard to make it an elegant, chic, and formal affair,” says LaMorte. “Nothing too cartoonish or campy, but it was still fun.”
True to her word, Kim walked down the aisle in a red strapless Maggie Sottero gown and matching birdcage veil, holding a bouquet of roses and calla lilies with skull and crossbone accents (the groom’s lapel also featured a skull and crossbones). After the outdoor ceremony, their 110 guests were treated to a cocktail hour with their favorite drink, the Shirley Temple (served with and without alcohol).
The reception featured a jewel-toned color scheme, with alternating low and high centerpieces, an escort card table covered in gems, and menu cards wrapped in custom leopard-print napkins, accented with feathers and a crystal brooch. Kim and Ian had their first dance to the acoustic version of the Foo Fighters’ “Everlong,” and after the sit-down dinner, guests danced the night away to tunes spun by a deejay. To celebrate their love of Disney, a vintage Mickey and Minnie topped Kim and Ian’s four-tier black-and-white wedding cake. There was also a Viennese table featuring cotton candy, funnel cakes, and hot pretzels, and guests were sent home with Disney-themed cookies.
At the end of the night, everyone agreed that the event perfectly captured Kim and Ian’s personal style—and why they’re so perfect for each other. “One of Kim’s aunts actually came up to thank me and started crying because she was so thrilled for them,” says LaMorte. “And that really makes all of the hard work worth it—seeing the couple and their guests so happy.”
