Cassandra Campbell was the first to notice him across the crowded cocktail party in her hometown of San Diego. “Good-looking guy,” she whispered to her friends. Later in the evening, Cassandra, a music teacher, boldly approached Wyatt Vince from Mendham, who was visiting some friends in California. Wyatt distinctly remembers thinking “pretty girl—don’t blow this….” Luckily, he didn’t, and six years later, Cassandra, a lifelong California girl, was proposed to at the epitome of East Coast-ness, the top of the Empire State Building.
Wyatt, the vice president of Phillipsburg Eastern Honda, is an avid golfer and member of the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, so the exclusive club became the obvious choice for their reception on September 6, 2008. But the search was on for the perfect ceremony location. Because their church was closed for renovations, the couple appealed to the Sisters of Christian Charity, a beautiful 500-acre convent in Mendham, and a stone’s throw from Wyatt’s parents’ home.
The sisters agreed, and held their first wedding ceremony ever at the sacred convent, surrounded by glittering candlelight and accompanied by a live orchestra. Cassandra wore the perfect dress from Israeli designer Pnina Tornai Couture—an elegant ivory lace trumpet gown embellished with Swarovski crystals. Crystals also adorned Cassandra’s white rose bouquet, while the six bridesmaids, wearing Amsale steel-blue gowns in various styles, carried coral calla lilies. Matching shrugs accessorized their dresses at the ceremony. The groom and eight groomsmen donned Zegna tuxedos.
Cassandra enlisted Joan Glenn of Six Degrees of Celebration in Westfield to create a multi-layered lavish evening. There were surprises and extras at every turn: an ice sculpture of the bride and groom’s names, a vodka luge, a cigar rolling station, chocolate golf-ball favors, a towering chocolate fondue fountain, and food from around the world. A custom-made framed seating arrangement with the Empire State Building in the background and every guest’s name in calligraphy has now become a cherished keepsake. Warm amber lighting and crystals punctuated the bright orange, pink, and coral centerpieces and dance-floor garlands. And the 200 guests were up all night thanks to rockers Soul Street Band, the same group that played at Billy Joel’s wedding. “Just The Way You Are” was the perfect first-dance choice.
There was one uninvited guest, Hurricane Hanna, who brought a gift of torrential downpours and gale-force winds, but luckily all was planned for indoors and the wedding went off without a hitch. Cassandra recalls, “the storm didn’t bother us a bit…in fact it made it even more of an adventure!” The bride and groom loved every glorious minute of their show-stopping event. “Seeing our beloved friends and family celebrating in our honor left me speechless,” says Cassandra. “It was literally the happiest day of my life.”
