It's really terrible that they didn't have any compassion for her situation. I've already booked my reception hall at another place, but I'll be sure to pass this on to other friends who just got engaged.

RE: the brownstone and madison hotel

A friend of mine planned a wedding at the Madison Hotel, but the engagement was broken off the day before. Her whole family was already staying in the hotel. The Madison Hotel did not give them any of their money back (as I would not expect), but they would not even give my friend a free hamburger lunch from room service because she was too devestated to leave her room. Considering the fact that this completely paid for wedding was cancelled, I would have thought the least they could have done was to have comped a few of the rooms and thrown them a few free meals (Since none of the 200 meals or alcohol for the following day were going to be consumed).

I don't know. I just don't trust a place that does business like that.

RE: the brownstone and madison hotel

Just attended a friends wedding at the Brownstone on 7-7-07 & i think it was the best wedding by far on the budget she was on! She did the buffet which i thought was wonderful & classy looking not to mention TASTY!! Everything was beautiful i beleive she chose the room all the way to the right it was like a glass house with the outside open to go out & get some fresh air not to mention the bar was outside too. All in all I thought the place was beautiful!!!

RE: the brownstone and madison hotel

sorry, i havent checked the message board in a while, but thank you very much for your advice! i have since booked the Brownstone for April 2008, I am so excited. He highly recommends and said that if he had to do it all over again he would definitely do it there. He commented on the gorgeous conservatory where they got married and how the banquet room had a moving wall so they can add or subtract space from the reception room.

Good luck!

RE: the brownstone and madison hotel

Yes. Our daughter was married at the Brownstone last October 15th. The wedding and reception was exceptional. The ceremony was held in the glass atrium room. It was absolutely beautiful. The cocktail hour was expansive and because it was a nice day we were able to extend the party out into the garden area. Being the mother of the bride I was naturally nervous and a bit overwhelmed. However the waitstaff was so accomodating and I was handed a glass of champagne the moment I entered the cocktail hour. It made every other detail just fall into place. The reception was held in the room downstairs and was gorgeous. I cannot say enough about the Brownstone. My daughter and her husband chose to have a Saturday afternoon wedding and reception. If you are thinking about this time frame you do save a good amount of money. Our other daughter just got engaged right before Christmas. It is going to be hard to beat the Brownstone though! Godd luck with your decision.
